So I went down to Houston last week for a couple of nights worth of rehearsal and a gig on Saturday with Bark Hard. The goal of this trip was to see if we could "play nice" after our last couple of 'reunion' shows which were drunken destructo-fests. So we wanted to stay sober, play as good as we could, and not break anything. This is because we're considering actually being a band again and playing more shows...people keep asking us to do shows, so we figure...
Thursday morning drummer Scott and I drove down to Houston. We had also offered to help our friend "Mama Prince" by doing some work on her house while we were in town. "Mama Prince" is Bark Hard singer Todd Prince's mom. Back in the day, she hosted many a BH rehearsal/party/skate fest in her house (which in those days had a 20 foot half-pipe ramp in the backyard.... She's a real cool lady, so it was nice to see her and helop her out by doing some work she needed.
Rehearsals on Thursday and Friday nights were brief, two hour sessions. We only had a thirty minute slot to play, the show was a benefit/memorial for a guy we knew who died recently, and the schedule was so tight that Johnny (BH rhythm guitarist)was actually gonna be leaving work for 90 minutes on Saturday night to come play the show before going back to work.
So, we played pretty good, stayed mostly sober, and there wasn't much of a crowd.
Meat Puppets were playing across town and that probably ate our lunch pretty bad.
There were maybe 40 or 50 people there when we played (at the ungodly early hour of 9:30)
and maybe by the end of the night there were 100. In a room that holds 500 people...
My sister came out and shot some video, we sound pretty good, there's screw ups in a couple of tunes, oops.
All in all, not our best show, but not our worst either.
