I personally can't wait for all this guitar music to be gone!

yeah, right.

HTS-maybe your 'expert' was just trying to keep himself in business by discouraging any possible competition?

I know music isn't a competition...but the world of gigging sure is competitive. I keep feeling like I just started out...every time.

The thing is...as a musician...you HAVE TO travel to the audience, no matter who you are. Just keep doing your thing, and let the audience find you (even if you have to go to them)

Back in the early 80's, we played many a show with the Butthole Surfers. Sometimes as little as five people in the 'crowd'...sometimes as many as 30. Around that time, on a trip to California, my Cali friends wanted to go see the Buttholes play. I said, sure...we'd just played together in Texas a few weeks before, to about 30 people.

Imagine my suprise to see that the Butthole Surfers were filling a 1000 seater in Los Angeles!

In Texas, they were still 'nobody'...

an "expert" in the Fresno music scene...

His brand of pessimism and narrow mindedness is probably what got him the hugely coveted position of being Fresno's music scene expert.

Some people are there just playing out a role. There have always been guys like that, and there always will be guys like that.

A guy like that called Dick Rowe, once played out his role at Decca when he turned down the Beatles because "guitar music [was] on its way out".

tight dude! If you guys are serious thats really awesome, but if you're not then it's all good bro. no problems

......artsy café? me?
.................maybe in Icicleland, but here, in Fresno, my stuff isnt well recieved anywhere...

like really, I took two songs to an "expert" in the Fresno music scene to get some advice, he told me that maybe in San Fransisco or San Diego there may be a 'small' community with some 'partial' interest

not exactly encouraging :(
but eh, I've quit trying to impress people :P

Well, as far as I know, you're on our todo list. Just need production values and gathering stuff for a demo, and it's on.

The type of stuff you do has such ambience, that it would lend the most dreary diner that arty café class, just by being put on.

But the main issue is getting cash flowing at the moment. Plumbers needed.

The best sounding direct recording stuff I've ever had for getting the big stack sound straight to tape:

The original Sansamp pedal is GREAT! It just does amp simulations, no extra effects or anything. But it sounds RIGHT.

The Mesa Boogie V-Twin pedal is real good for direct recording or putting in front of an amp.

And I used to Have a Hughes & Kettner "Cream machine" tube preamp that was real good too.

Wish I still had all that stuff...

Well it's got a good healthy amount of saturation, and that's what I always go for.

I find square wave distortion just icky most of the time, never did understand why people get so worked up about the Big Muff........it's probably the name........

And a lot of heavy metal pedals are just a bog standard OD pedal with a super-attenuated power-amp section. It's meant to capture the sound of an OD pedal through a big stack, but it's never worked to my ears.

Just gimme some heavy saturation and a set of Celestions and I'm happy.

That is the most SEARING distortion I've heard in a while, btw.

This piece reminds me a lot of the old SST records jazz/improv era-that was some cool shit, they really pissed a lot of people off with that stuff, but people like me LOVED IT!
