The Cure uses them alot, for the bass melodies. Anyway, it seems to be more common amongst guitarists to emphasize the mid. Maybe if you like guitar with a lot of bass register, your looking for some kind of guitar/bass hybrid. I really like the Ampeg 4x10 'mini SVT' cabs a lot, wish I still had mine. These cones are about average, so the bass isn't emphasised as much. But you may have a point about the size and shape of the cab. I have a feeling that the larger 8" loaded cabs are larger because they have resonance chambers built into them. And speakers can be voiced to emphasise different frequencies, so that may account for some of the bassier cabs. Reason I ask is cause I've seen alot of high end bass cabinets that are loaded with 8"s. And most of those use bigger cabinets than that. One of the things that's really hard to believe is just how clear the sound is. I'm hearing nuances to my sound that I just wasn't aware of before, and my Vox is a damn good amp, but the Carlsbro is pure class. However, as good as the speaker cabs are, they're still only loaded with 8" speakers and the low end just isn't enough for my taste. That might not sound that great so I'll explain. 4x12AX7s, 2xEL34s, a circuit board that was probably ripped off from Marshall back in the good old days when nobody payed any attention to patents, and 8xCelestions. All for £332. YEEEEE (and also) F****** (and additionally) HHAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! (PS: How do I post pics on this site?)
